EDUCATOR

Kara has taught 700 students over 13 years and 10 courses. Her students have included high school students, college students, incarcerated men, and community organizers. She has also mentored dozens of undergraduate and graduate students in conducting qualitative research. 

Recognized for making the complicated simple and empathetically meeting her students where they are, Kara has won several awards for her teaching and mentorship. This past April, she received the Most Supportive Faculty Award by the Sociology Graduate Student Association at The Ohio State Universityå. At UC Berkeley, she was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award and the Blumer Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching.
